Is Gainesville City Mayor Intentionally Trying to Sabotage a Board Authority?
It has been a while I know. I had taken a step back after the last writing, since then it had been fairly quiet, with the exception of watching city meetings that seemed to put down the state, the State Auditor showing up to the city of Gainesville a month early, and full on event that in my opinion that could leave many commissioners in some hot water. Of course there are somethings that will have to be left to the next writing, because events are continuing to unfold, new information is being gained each day. So, let me get started. Commissioner Bryan Eastman announced on June 16th that the “ “GRU Takeover Bill” cost rate payers another $3million, and it’s not even signed yet. The bank we used to do our bond swaps pulled out, due “uncertainty” of how poorly written and vague the law is, and we had to go with a much more expensive backup option that will cost the rate payers another $1million per year.” this Bank that Bryan Eastman claims pulled out was Barclays Bank. Barclays did not pull out but did inform in an email that they would be willing to move forward with the bond issuance but they would have to wait until the week of July 10th. There is another email, from this
same day that I cannot post as of yet. There are events surrounding the email that could prove to be something of a very bad decision by certain people within the commission. Yes, Barclays had Questions, as they rightfully should have considering the city chose to not move forward and close by April when they originally had planned to.
These Questions are something many of the banks should ask when one has pushed off the bond issuance, and then wanting to close just before the 1st of July, while there is legislation surrounding the specified utility. Had the City of Gainesville moved forward in March to close by April there would not have been the questions by Barclays, and there also would not have been an additional 2.9 million added to the debt of GRU. In my opinion this was done intentionally, much like a rebellious teenager trying to prove something. The email that I will have to wait to post is quite damning to the commission especially Mayor Harvey Ward, of course Bryan Eastman again decides he should come to the aid of the Mayor by saying that it is a weak Mayor system and he cannot direct anyone to do anything. Which is true by looking at the charter of the city, however that does not mean that he did not do exactly that.
I do encourage you all to read the Charter, Particularly Part 1, Article II, Sect. 2.10 and 2.11. You can guarantee I will be writing about the charter soon. It does go along with my husband’s writing on the customers for a better Gru page, and it also surrounds the Email that has yet to be posted.
Thank you all for all of your support, and I will do my best to keep you all up to date.
